Recovery After Loss
Share
On this episode of Courage to Change, I share my story of resilience, heartbreak, and hope. Growing up with parents who struggled with addiction, I longed for a life that was different from the one I knew. At 18, I thought I’d found my escape when I married someone who seemed to come from a perfect, white-picket-fence family. But life took a darker turn.
I open up about the years of turmoil—my husband’s growing anger and darkness and the violence that ultimately led to the unimaginable. In 2008, my then-husband murdered my daughter, shattering my world. Overwhelmed by grief and guilt, I struggled to function. I lost my home, my daughter was placed in foster care, and I found myself working three jobs just to survive. For years, hope felt out of reach.
But with the encouragement of a friend, I made a life-changing move. Slowly, I rebuilt my life. While the pain of losing my daughter will never leave me, I’ve found a sense of peace and purpose that once seemed impossible. Today, I mended my life and use my story to inspire hope in others—even in their darkest moments.
